ADAM-X Laparoscopic : High-Fidelity Surgical Patient Simulator
The ADAM-X Laparoscopic is a high-fidelity full-body surgical patient simulator and MEDICAL-X’s highest fidelity manikin. It provides a faithful reproduction of a man’s anatomy and physiology with a specially designed abdomen for the insertion of trocars and laparoscopic instruments, allowing students to practice surgical skills using real devices.
The simulator features a realistic human height and weight of 1.95m and 80kg, life-like looking soft silicone skin, and realistic movements of the limbs and joints. With an integrated Anesthesia Machine Simulator, the ADAM-X Laparoscopic creates a comprehensive training environment simulating a real patient under surgery.
Laparoscopic and Surgical Training
The specially designed abdomen allows students to practice their laparoscopic skills in two unique ways:
- Box Trainer Mode: The abdomen dome module can be used as a traditional box trainer with a real laparoscope, allowing for the insertion of several training models and endless possibilities of exercises.
- Virtual Reality (VR) Mode: By using the LAP-X laparoscopic surgical simulator in VR mode, students can practice 34 VR exercises divided into five curricula, develop manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, and practice actual surgical laparoscopic procedures.
In both modes, students practice with real laparoscopic graspers and instruments, developing dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and laparoscopic depth perception. The software provides instant feedback with measurements of duration, path lengths, and mistakes.
Integrated Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring
The simulator integrates an interactive Anesthesia Machine Simulator and a realistic, adjustable Patient Monitor for comprehensive perioperative training.
- Anesthesia Machine Simulator: Displays the main features of an Anesthesia Machine and ventilator, preparing learners for using real devices. It supports common ventilation modes, including Volume-controlled, Pressure-controlled, and Pressure Support, and simulates anesthetic gases like nitrous oxide, isoflurane, sevoflurane, and desflurane.
- Patient Monitor: Displays basic vital signs to advanced monitoring parameters, including ECG, SpO2, NIBP, Arterial Blood Pressure, Cardiac Output, and various gas parameters (CO2, N2O). The instructor can set all parameters in real-time.
Core Clinical Capabilities
- Airway: Supports advanced airway management, including orotracheal, nasotracheal, and fiberoptic intubation. Includes realistic anatomy, airway complications (laryngospasm, tongue/laryngeal edema), and sensors to detect correct or esophageal intubation. Needle and surgical cricothyrotomy are supported.
- Breathing & Chest: Features spontaneous breathing, realistic chest rise and fall, variable lung compliance, and bilateral thoracic needle decompression and chest tube placement. Supports lung auscultation with normal and adventitious sounds.
- Cardiovascular: Supports blood pressure measurement with a real cuff, audible Korotkoff sounds, and ECG monitoring. Features bilateral palpable pulses (carotid, radial, femoral, etc.) synchronized with ECG.
- Resuscitation: Ideal for CPR training with realistic compression resistance and anatomical landmarks. Defibrillation and cardioversion can be performed using real devices and energy.
- Access & Skills: Supports IV access, Intraosseous (IO) insertion on the tibia and humerus, urethral catheterization, and auscultation of bowel sounds.
Skills and Audience
The Laparoscopic ADAM-X is essential for institutions specializing in **surgical and perioperative team training**. It is specifically designed to bridge the gap between technical surgical skills and crisis resource management (CRM) during patient care.
Target Audiences:
- Surgical Residents and Fellows: Focus on developing technical laparoscopic skills, hand-eye coordination, and depth perception using real surgical instruments in a safe environment.
- Anesthesiologists and Anesthesia Trainees: Practice managing the patient’s vital signs and ventilator settings using the integrated Anesthesia Machine Simulator during surgical complications.
- Operating Room (OR) Teams: Ideal for training multidisciplinary teams (surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses) to work interdependently and collaboratively, managing patient emergencies during all stages of perioperative care.
- Advanced Simulation Centers: Excellent for running complex, high-fidelity scenarios involving both surgical intervention and full patient deterioration.
